We are excited to introduce to you Sally Collins, one of the talented jewellers taking part in this years Spring Showcase. Sally, who is London based, is exploring colour in a really innovative way. She creates her pieces using reclaimed plastics from toys and abandoned vapes, and reclaimed tin which is then textured and painted with acrylic. She also applies traditional jewellery techniques to her work, including riveting, soldering and forming, as well as creating details, findings and frames in sterling silver.
Sally Collins is a jewellery maker, collector, curator and educator who has been working in the contemporary jewellery field since 2008, after graduating with an MA from Birmingham’s School of Jewellery. Sally’s passion is for creating jewellery pieces that explore an overly decorative and hyper ornamented ‘Superfrilly’ aesthetic, which question the role of collecting and our intrinsic desire to possess things in an increasingly overcrowded and fast fashion focused society. Her jewellery asks the question ‘when is enough, enough?’, and explores the notion that we often strive to be better, stronger, more productive and more idealised versions of ourselves…where do we stop, how do we know when enough is enough? Sally has worked as a lecturer within the Jewellery field since 2010, and began her role as Course Leader for the BA Jewellery Design at Central Saint Martins, UAL in 2023.
